New Day

Buds bursting into brilliant bloom
decorate lush untrodden land
dew-drenched verdant blades
gloriously glisten
graced by dawn’s first rays.

Limit-defying dreams demand
new strength—challenge-cultivated
unfamiliar terrain
fearless open-heart embrace.

Galaxies and Your Eyes

Gold and diamonds dazzle
but galaxies—
—and your eyes
are infinitely more brilliant.

Cash and champagne overflow
inflated ego—
—unconditional love
floods the soul with hope.

This poem was inspired by this NaPoWriMo prompt: “keeping to the theme of poetry’s value, Wallace Stevens famously wrote that “money is a kind of poetry.” So today, I challenge you to write about money! It could be about not having enough, having too much (a nice kind of problem to have), the smell, or feel, or sensory aspects of money. It could also just be a poem about how we decide what has value or worth.”
